The West Florida Regional Library
The West Florida Regional Library serves residents of Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties. The Pensacola Public Library (headquarters), the Tryon Branch, the Southwest Branch, and the Bookmobile receive their primary funding from both the City of Pensacola and Escambia County. The branches in Milton, Gulf Breeze, Navarre and Jay are funded primarily by Santa Rosa County. The City of Pensacola provides administration for the system through contractual agreements with the two counties. Some state aid supplements local funds, and federal grants may provide for special projects. The West Florida Regional Library Board, an advisory body, is made up of nine members. The Pensacola City Council, the Escambia County Commission and the Santa Rosa County Commission each appoint three members to the Board. The Board meets monthly, usually at the main library.

As director of the Library System, Gene Fischer (850-436-5060) oversees two libraries within the city as well as branches in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.
Gene, a native of New Orleans, graduated with a B.S. in Political Science from Tulane University in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967-70, then attended Louisiana State University, where he received an M.S. in Library Science in 1973. He was a library administrator in Virginia, Illinois and Indiana before coming to Pensacola as Library Superintendent in January 1988. He became Library Director in January 2000.
